Fudge Is King On Mackinac Island!
Located in northern Michigan, Mackinac Island has been dubbed the Fudge Capital of the World. This popular tourist spot has turned making fudge not only a sweet treat but an attraction as well. The Island has been known to make 10K pounds of fudge every day during its peak tourist season.
In the 1880s, the Murdick family opened the Island’s first candy store. Not only can visitors buy a variety of fudge, but they can also watch it being made.
Each batch of fudge is cooked in a large kettle and is then poured onto a large marble surface. The fudge artisans then mix the fudge with a large trowel until it is hard and ready to be cut and packaged.

Another reason it’s so appealing is that you can make such a huge array of fudge using different spices, fruits, nuts, candy, cookies and so much more! The number of recipe combinations must be in the millions!
Because fudge is such a portable snack, you can take it to family get-togethers, picnics, church potlucks, and even to welcome a new neighbor to the area! When my kids were in school our go-to snack for bake sales and parties was one of our many favorite fudge recipes!
