I'm the type of person that I never realize I need condensed milk ahead of time and don't give myself any warning. Luckily, I've got this simple recipe that always has my back. Not only is it really quick and easy to make, but I actually think that it tastes a lot better than the store-bought options as well.
I'm quick to love the ease of being able to make my very own recipes so now that I have this one in my arsenal, I feel like I'm ready for any type of baking easily.
What is sweetened condensed milk used for?
If you're scratching your head on what you'd even use it for, you're not alone. Everyone “knows” what it is but not everyone knows how to use it. You can use sweetened condensed milk in dessert recipes and some people even use it as a creamer to help make their coffee taste a bit sweeter as well.
Is condensed milk good in coffee?
For sure! Especially when it's sweetened! I know that many people like their coffee plain and black but if you like to add in a little bit of sweetness, you're going to love being able to make your own homemade coffee creamer.
Homemade Sweetened Condensed Milk
Ingredients:
- 1 cup Instant Non-Fat Dry Milk
- 2/3 cup Sugar
- 1/2 cup boiling Water
- 1/4 cup melted Butter
How to Make Homemade Sweetened Condensed Milk
All you need to do is combine all ingredients into a blender and running it until everything is well mixed (make certain to scrape down the sides as needed).
How do you store homemade condensed milk?
Storing it is the easy part. (Making it is simple, too!) Once you have it mixed and made, you can easily just store it in a sealed jar in the fridge for a week.
If you're worried that you don't know what to use it for, start to look up other homemade recipes that you can easily add it to. You'll be surprised at what you can find.
(Or just up your coffee drinking or the week and finish it off!)
Can you freeze condensed milk?
You probably can, but since it's so simple to make and doesn't make a huge batch, I've never had to worry about freezing it before. If you do freeze it, you're probably going to notice a texture difference when it is time to unthaw it. The taste should still be fine but more than likely, it's going to look a bit different then if you made it fresh.
Should I use salted or unsalted butter for this recipe?
Since it's a sweeter recipe, I would use unsalted butter. That way the sweetness comes through and you don't have to worry about tasting any excess or extra salt.
