Pinto beans and ham combine with tomatoes and spices to make this delicious and inexpensive Pinto Beans and Ham recipe. We even have a Homemade Buttermilk Cornbread recipe to compliment it!
I grew up in the south. My mom was the best southern cook! We ate a lot of fried chicken, black eyed peas, corn bread, and lots of sweet iced tea. Talk about your belly filling comfort foods!
Fall is my favorite season here. It is still the heat of the summer has ebbed away. I watched the first leaves fall from the trees yesterday afternoon. Sigh. Life is good!
Crock-Pot 6-Quart Cook & Carry Programmable Slow Cooker with with Digital Timer
Because it is still warm in the evenings here, I use my slow cooker often. My husband will man the grill and I will create magic in my favorite small kitchen appliance!
This also means we aren’t spending time cooking dinner. I would rather be hanging with my favorite people than with my stove all night long.
To cut down on time I also rely on canned goods. I love Luck’s because their products have an authentic southern taste I love.
Have you ever used Luck’s? They are so good ya’ll! They have been delivering premium quality beans and fried peaches since 1947.
Because I am from the south, I appreciate that Luck’s has their culinary roots in the South. They bring their signature southern taste for distinct and delicious dishes Just like my mom made.
I love how versatile the Luck’s Beans are. They are easy and convenient and allow me to let my creative juices flow!
Today, I am using the Luck’s Pinto Beans, which are seasoned with pork, in my recipe. They are different from other pinto beans.
To get that authentic southern-style pinto bean, Luck’s pinto beans are soaked and simmered longer than other canned pinto beans. This is how they create softer textured beans in a rich, creamy, pork-seasoned sauce.
Oh.Em.Gee! You will not find a tastier pinto bean that is perfect for your favorite recipes. The beans from Luck’s are amazing in chili, soup, salads, Mexican dishes and even vegan brownies!
My mom made Pinto Beans and Ham often. The house smelled divine! On Sunday’s, I have my Luck’s Pinto Beans and Ham going in the slow cooker.
In the meantime, I will make my mom’s Homemade Buttermilk Cornbread recipe. There is nothing better then dipping a warm piece of cornbread into a bowl of Pinto Beans and Ham. Pure Heaven!

I notice there are canned tomatoes and tomato sauce in your photos, but no tomato products listed in the recipe. Could you please tell me how much of each should be included?
Chrysa says
I’m so sorry! Somehow that totally got left out! It should be one 14 oz can of tomato sauce and one 14.5 ounce can of diced tomatoes. I’m going to update it now!
Vera Watson says
Looks good. Do you drain the beans or pour it in the slow cooker with the juice
Chrysa says
We use the juice too.

I live in California. Where can I find this brand of pinto beans? Sounds so delicious!!

Thanks for the recipes. I grew up eating homemade cornbread but have resorted to using a mix to save time more recently. Reading your recipe reminds me that homemade really is not complicated and doesn’t take much longer than the mix but is so much better!
