Twix Thumbprint Cookies Ingredients
This recipe calls for just a few simple ingredients, most of which you will already have at home. The one thing you might not have already (besides a fresh carton of heavy whipping cream) is the Caramel Bits, but you can find them in the baking aisle of the supermarket.
You’ll need:
- Butter
- Sugar
- Egg Yolks
- Vanilla Extract
- Flour
- Caramel Bits
- Heavy Whipping Cream
- Milk Chocolate Chips
How to Make Twix Thumbprint Cookies
Preheat the oven to 375 degrees. Prepare a large baking sheet with parchment paper.
Beat the butter at medium speed until fluffy. Slowly add the sugar, scraping the bowl down as needed. Add the egg yolks and vanilla, blending until well mixed.
Add the flour a little at a time and beat until combined. Refrigerate the cookie dough for at least one hour.
Using a small (about 1 tablespoon) cookie scoop, place the cookie dough at least 1 inch apart. Bake for 10 minutes.
When the cookies are done, remove them from the oven and gently press the back of a teaspoon into the center of each cookie. Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheet.
Meanwhile, place the caramel bits and cream in a microwaveable bowl. Heat in the microwave, stirring every 30 seconds until smooth.
Spoon a small amount of the caramel into the hole in each cookie.
In another microwavable bowl, place the caramel bits and cream. Heat in the microwave, stirring every 30 seconds until smooth.
Transfer melted chocolate to a piping bag or zip-top storage bag with the corner snipped. Drizzle over the cookies.
Allow the chocolate to set completely before serving.
That’s it! It’s that easy to make.
FAQ
Why are my thumbprint cookies so crumbly?
Some people like the texture of crumbly cookies, but in this salted caramel thumbprint cookies recipe, it’s not a good texture to have.
If these thumbprint cookies are crumbly, it means that you mixed the ingredients and dough too much. Just mix until combined, nothing more than that.
Why are they called thumbprint cookies?
It’s all in how they’re made! The little “divot” in the middle of the cookie can be made using a thumbprint or with the back of a spoon.
I use a spoon just because it’s quicker and easier, but as long as you clean your hands, you can totally use your thumb!
How do I keep my thumbprint cookies from spreading?
This is important! The best way to keep your cookies small and circular in shape is to make sure that you don’t mix the dough too much. If you overmix, the dough will spread while baking, and they might run into one another.
While they’re still totally fine to eat, it just makes the caramel thumbprint shortbread cookies have a less-than-perfect appearance.
Are these Twix shortbread cookies the same as Linzer cookies?
While there are similarities, they’re not the same exactly. Linzer cookies are typically filled with a type of fruit jam or filling and then dusted with powdered sugar. These aren’t like that, but they’re delicious!
