Celebrate 4th of July or any patriotic holiday with this delicious and easy-to-make Red, White and Blue Popcorn Balls Recipe!
On patriotic holidays it’s fun to celebrate with some red, white and blue treats. This Patriotic Popcorn Balls recipe is the perfect thing to add to the celebration.
Not only are they fun and festive, but they taste REALLY good. My mom is the creator of these and I can’t wait until she makes me another batch (although I will probably break down and make them myself)!
These 4th of July popcorn balls are fun to eat at a party or to give to guests as a party favor.
My grandma always wrapped them in plastic wrap so we could bring them home. You can do the same or you can put them in cellophane treat bags tied up with red, white and blue ribbons.
Red, White and Blue Popcorn Balls Recipe
Ingredients:
2 c. sugar
2/3 cup water
1-1/2 tsp. salt
2/3 c. light corn syrup
1/2 c. butter
1/2 tsp. vanilla
4 qts (16 cups) warm popped corn (Be sure to use white corn, not yellow.)
1/2 to 3/4 cup blue M&Ms
1/2 to 3/4 cup red M&Ms
M&M’s Red White & Blue Milk Chocolate
How to Make Red, White and Blue Popcorn Balls:
Bring first 5 ingredients to a boil, stirring until sugar is dissolved. Continue cooking over low heat without stirring, until mixture reaches hard ball stage (put a few drops in ice-cold water and it will harden quickly) or 268 degrees on a candy thermometer. Add vanilla.
Pour over warm popcorn.
Divide popcorn in two batches. Add red M&Ms to one batch and add the blue M&Ms to the other. Wet hands and form into balls. You may want to put a thin film of butter on your hands so the popcorn doesn’t stick.
