When I was a kid, we lived exactly one block from our elementary school. My mom was one of those parents who wanted to be as involved in her kid’s lives as possible. Mom was a recognized figure at that school. Mom volunteered in the library, the office, our classrooms and anywhere else they could use her. Back then, we were slightly embarrassed by her constant presence. As a parent, I can totally appreciate it.
Now I am a parent and I am just as involved with my kid’s school as my mom was in mine. My husband was the token guy to chaperone every field trip throughout all of elementary school! I helped out with the bake sales, book sales, library assistant and classroom volunteer. I have such a huge appreciation for how hard the teachers work. To show how much they mean to us, the kids and I make a special gift for their teachers. This year for our homemade teacher appreciation gift we are making a colored pencil vase. It is super cute, easy to make and really cheap! We made this vase for about $5 and it took us about 20 minutes to make!
Homemade Teacher Appreciation Gift: Colored Pencil Vase
Here is what you need to make the vase:
1 clear vase, as close to the height of a pencil as possible
48 colored pencils
Double sided tape, a glue gun or glue dots
Ribbon
Step 1: Attach 8-10 pencils to the double sided tape.
Step 2: Attach the pencils to the vase. If the tape won’t hold the pencils, use a few glue dots or the glue gun. Repeat steps 1 and 2 until the vase is covered.
Step 3: Cut a length of ribbon that is 1 1/2 times the width of the vase. Fold the ribbon in half and cut a square of the double sided tape. This will help the ribbon to not slip. The middle of the ribbon should go in middle of the back of the vase.
Step 4: Tie your ribbon.
Now you are ready to fill your colored pencil vase with flowers and give to your favorite teacher!

This is such an adorable vase! I think my kids teachers would love it as well. I try to be involved with the kids school, but with one at home still, it can be difficult. Next year though! I plan to get highly involved.
