Make peanut butter in your food processor in just five minutes with only one ingredient – PEANUTS! Salt and honey are optional. It’s SO GOOD!
I LOVE peanut butter. But, I have to say I’m pretty picky about what kind I like to eat. I like to eat REAL peanut butter that doesn’t have a lot of “extras” added to it.
I really don’t want things like high fructose corn syrup and miscellaneous chemicals and preservatives when it doesn’t need it. There is only thing that peanut butter really needs. That’s peanuts!!
When it comes to peanut butter preferences for me, salt is good (I like things salty) and if you like things a little sweeter, you can sweeten your peanut butter naturally with honey.
For choosing peanuts, dry roasted peanuts will give you the best flavor. You can buy unsalted peanuts if you’re looking to reduce the sodium, but I love the extra flavor from salted dry roasted peanuts.
If you use a lot of peanut butter, your best option when making it for yourself is to buy your peanuts in bulk. You can do that at a natural foods co-op, a warehouse club store (like Sam’s Club or Costco) or on Amazon.

Honey (optional)
Salt (optional)
How to make homemade peanut butter:
Place peanuts (and optional ingredients if using) in food processor and run for about a minute and scrape down sides if necessary. Then process for another 3-4 minutes or until peanut butter has reached desired consistency.
If using salted peanuts, you do not need to add any extra salt.
You can add honey if you want a little extra sweetness. If so, add about 1 teaspoon per cup of peanuts.
1 cup of peanuts yields a little over 1/2 cup of peanut butter.
Does homemade peanut butter need to be refrigerated?
To keep your natural peanut butter fresh, store it in the refrigerator. When it’s cold it will stiffen up, so stir it up before using to make it easier to spread.
What can I make with homemade peanut butter?
Now that your peanut butter is made, you can use it in sandwiches, on crackers, in smoothies or any of the other ways you enjoy peanut butter.
You can also make these yummy Apple Sandwiches (perfect for after-school snacks) or pack a lunch with these Homemade PB&J Uncrustables!
Another one of our favorites is Peanut Butter Chocolate and Banana Quesadillas. They’re so delicious!

Do you need to store the peanut butter in the fridge after it’s made?
Chrysa says
Good question! I’ll update the post with this. Yes, I recommend storing it in the fridge to keep it fresh. You will need to stir it up when you take it out as it will stiffen up when it’s cold.
