This apple sandwiches recipe is not only pretty, it’s lots of fun to make (and eat)! It’s perfect for an after school snack or in a school lunchbox.
Since these apple sandwiches are so easy to put together, you can even let the kids get involved to help make them.
You can just prepare the apples and then let the kids take over for the fun part of the sandwich building!
If you’re going to pack your sandwiches in a lunchbox, you’ll want to do something to keep the apple slices from browning.
You can use a product like Fruit Fresh or else just dip the slices in a citrus juice – lemon works well, or you can use pineapple juice for a sweeter taste.
The most simple option to keep your apples from browning is to prepare a bowl with four cups of cold water with 1 Tablespoon of lemon juice. Let the apple slices soak for 5-10 minutes, then proceed with the rest of the recipe.
These snacks are packed with good-for-you things like apples, raisins and peanut butter. If peanuts are off the list at your house or school, just substitute almond butter, sunbutter or another spread of your choice.
If you want an even more homemade snack, you can use peanut butter that you have made yourself with our easy homemade peanut butter recipe.
Apple Sandwiches Recipe
2-3 tbsp Peanut Butter
3 tbsp Granola
How to Make Apple Sandwiches
Remove cores from apples (this apple corer makes it easy) and cut into 1/4-1/2″ thick slices
Spread apple slice with peanut butter.
Top with granola and raisins.
Place another apple slice on top and gently press together.
Repeat with remaining apple slices.
What Type of Apple is Best for Sandwiches?
The best type of apple is whatever your kids will eat! I like to combine the colors of green Granny Smith Apples and red Honeycrisp Apples, but the options are really up to you. If you haven’t tried a Sweet Tango apple yet, they’re delicious!
Optional Apple Sandwich Fillers:
Besides the peanut or nut butter and granola, you can add any of these toppings to your snacks:
- Dried Fruit
- Mini Chocolate Chips
- Sunflower Seeds
- Shredded Coconut
- Mini Marshmallows
