I am crazy about frosting! In my opinion it's the frosting that can make or break a good cake or cupcake. I used to love eating frosting right out of the can, but now that I have been making homemade frosting, there is no comparison with how yummy it is compared to the pre-made stuff. The good thing is that it really isn't hard to make and it's difficult to screw up the recipe. Even if your proportions are off a bit, it still tastes good!
Of course you can flavor this frosting a bit with different extracts (almond, mint, etc) if you like and you can also add in some food coloring to add a little pizzazz to your baked goods. Whatever you decide to do with it, this is one that you'll probably add to your go-to list of recipes. It's on mine!
Easy Buttercream Frosting Recipe
1 cup unsalted butter, softened
2 cups confectioners sugar
1/4 tsp salt
2 tsp vanilla extract
3 tsp milk
Place butter, sugar and salt in mixer bowl and turn on low until combined. Increase speed to medium high and beat for a minute. Add in vanilla and milk and beat until light and fluffy – approximately 4-5 minutes. If frosting is too stiff, add in a few drops more milk until thinned to the consistency you like.
