Starting with whole, fresh pitas you can make crispy crunchy homemade pita chips!
I LOVE hummus and my favorite way to eat it is on pita chips. I found out this week that it is really easy to make your own pita chips and they are delicious as well!
For my pita chips I seasoned them with garlic, salt and pepper, but you’re free to add in whatever spices you would like.
I also started with ordinary pita bread, but you can opt to use whole wheat, flavored or any type.
Homemade Pita Chips Recipe
Ingredients:
4 pitas
3 cloves garlic
1/2 cup olive oil
salt
freshly ground black pepper
How to Make Your Own Pita Chips:
Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
Smash the garlic cloves and add them to the olive oil, seasoning with salt and fresh ground pepper.
Cut each pita into 8 wedges. For crispier chips, separate the “layers” of the pita as well (ending up with 16 pieces per pita).
Brush each side of each wedge with the olive oil mixture and place on a rimmed baking sheet.
Bake 10-15 minutes, turning halfway through.
Keep a close eye while baking because once they brown, the chips can burn easily.
These homemade chips are super versatile and can be served with all kinds of dips, cheese spreads or even salsas.
We love to eat them with our delicious Instant Pot hummus. It’s easy to make and so delicious!

I wish I had seen this recipe before the weekend. I bought some hummus with caramelized onions from the deli that was to die for. Though we had it with the deli’s jalapeno and cheddar bread I would have preferred it on these! If you wanted to add some parm or spices would you add it before or after baking? Thanks for the wonderful recipe! He reminds me so much of my son at that age it is uncanny!

I love making homemade pita chips and homemade hummus. Unfortunately, I’ll be going gluten free in the next few weeks, likely for a lifetime. This is one of my beloved faves and I will find a way to make gluten-free pitas!

I love making things like pita chips, tortillas, and other baked goods at home. They taste much fresher and doesn’t contain preservatives like store bought. not to mention it is more economical. I would definitely add some grated parm to the top of those. Yum!
