This easy homemade onion dip recipe tastes SO MUCH BETTER than dip made with packets of onion soup mix!
When it comes to the ultimate snack foods, chips and dip are right at the top of my list.
Whether it’s for the big game, a family get-together or movie night – – they always hit the spot.
So, when I was asked to create a recipe for this post sponsored by Cape Cod® Potato Chips I just KNEW it had to be most favorite Easy Homemade Onion Dip recipe.
I have been a fan of onion dip for a looooong time. But, I always made it with just a powdered seasoning packet.
Yes, that dip still tastes good, but it’s not quite the same as made-from-scratch onion dip.
(By the way, if you do want to make dip from a mix, you can try our homemade onion soup mix and start with that!)
But this dip starts from scratch – no mixes involved.
And, guess what – homemade is really not that hard. I always thought homemade dip was something only fancy schmancy cooks would whip up for every party….but now it is my party standard and I’m not a fancy schmancy cook.
It seriously has become that thing that people expect when they show up to our house for a party and if for some reason I don’t make it I see disappointed faces.
That’s why I titled this Easy Homemade Onion Dip Recipe – it’s pretty darn easy to make. (But everyone at your party will be impressed that it’s from scratch and NOT from a packet of onion soup mix!)
Let me get right to the recipe itself and then I will get to the chips! I make the dip with low fat cream cheese and with fat free Greek yogurt.
Seriously – you can NOT tell that it has such a low-fat base. It’s creamy and delicious!
Easy Homemade Onion Dip Recipe
Ingredients:
2 medium onions (or 1 very large onion)
1 tablespoon butter
1 tablespoon olive oil
4 cloves garlic, minced
2 beef bouillon cubes
½ teaspoon oregano
2 teaspoon tamari or soy sauce
2 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
¼ cup water
8 oz light cream cheese, room temperature
8 oz fat free Greek yogurt
salt and pepper
How to Make Homemade Onion Dip:
Cut the onions in half and then slice them very thinly.
Dice up the slices (it’s ok if there are some larger pieces of onion).
Heat butter and olive oil in a skillet over medium heat until butter is melted.
Add in onions and cook until starting to brown. Add in garlic and cook for a minute.
Add in bouillon cubes, sauces, oregano, water and a bit of black pepper. Cook for 2-3 minutes.
Remove from heat to cool for a few minutes.
In a medium bowl, combine onion mixture, cream cheese and yogurt. Add salt to season as necessary.
When it comes to the chips to serve with this Easy Homemade Onion Dip Recipe, they have to be sturdy!! This dip is hearty and a thin, wimpy chip will break right off into the dip – – and nobody wants that.
So, that makes Cape Cod Potato Chips a perfect choice. They are crunchy, thick-cut chips and even handmade – just like the dip. I love that I can scoop up a great big pile of dip with each Cape Cod Chip. So good!
While Cape Cod Potato Chips got their start in a small storefront of Hyannis, Massachusetts, they are now available nationwide. (And if you can’t find them in your area you can always order them via Amazon.) I first had Cape Cod Chips when I lived in New Jersey.
For a looooong time, the lunch I brought to work almost every day was a turkey and cheese sandwich, Cape Cod Chips and carrot sticks.
All these years later they are still a favorite and still stand out as an awesome go-to choice for dipping, lunching or snacking.
This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of Cape Cod® Potato Chips.
