I am a big fan of Captain America, especially having had the chance to be on set with one of my favorite superheroes during the filming of Captain America: The Winter Soldier last year.
I was so excited once the movie actually came to the theater and I was able to see the scene we witnessed come to life on the BIG screen! It’s amazing that hour and a half condensed to about 15 seconds.
Now Captain America: The Winter Soldier is available on DVD and Blu-Ray, so I set about rounding up some fun M&Ms™ recipes and an activity to kick back and have an enjoyable Captain America party at home. To get started, I headed to Walmart to gather my supplies.
Then I headed home to make my Captain America Ice Cream Sandwiches. To make these easier, I used bakery sugar cookies, but you could make your own, of course!
Captain America Ice Cream Sandwiches Recipe
Ingredients:
Bakery Sugar Cookies
Vanilla Ice Cream
Decorator Frosting in Red, White and Blue
Powdered Sugar
M&Ms in red and blue
Directions:
Start out by preparing the ice cream. Lay a sheet of wax paper on a cookie sheet. Using an ice cream scoop, place scoops of ice cream on the sheet. Place a second piece of wax paper on top. Use your hands to push down and flatten ice cream scoops. Return to freezer.
Next we have to make our Captain America cookies! Using the decorator frosting, pipe a shield design on each cookie.
Start with a red ring on the outside of the cookie, and then a second red ring a bit farther in. Pipe a white ring between the two red rings. Fill the center circle with blue.
Cut out a small star in the center of a piece of paper. You can print out the shield image above and use that star – it’s what I used for my cookies!
Place powdered sugar in a small sifter, hold paper over your cookie, and slightly shake sifter to let powdered sugar fall over stencil. These are kind of “free form” shields, so it doesn’t have to be perfect!
Let your cookies set for approximately 30 minutes or until icing has hardened. Then take two cookies and place a scoop of ice cream between them.
Press red and blue M&Ms into the ice cream around the edges of your sandwich.
Return to the freezer until you’re ready to serve your Captain America ice cream treat.
I couldn’t leave you with just one recipe, so here is a recipe for Patriotic Popcorn Balls. With their red, white and blue colors, they can also be called Captain America popcorn balls. They have that delicious sweet and salty taste that is always a favorite.
While you are eating your yummy M&Ms treats and watching Captain America: The Winter Soldier, you can add to the fun with this printable Captain America Bingo Game.
Print out the bingo cards and give one to each player (there are 10 in all). Each person gets a handful of M&Ms to use as markers.
As you see items listed on your card on the screen during the movie, mark off the spaces until you have a complete line and can call BINGO! Remember, if you eat all of your M&Ms too soon, you won’t be able to win the game!

It said that I was Yellow, you often have your head up in the clouds. You and Yellow are very much dreamers. It is very easy for you to see the big picture, but not as easy for you to see the details. You have a wide range of friends that do a great job of grounding you and you’re always up for a good time!
