Summer is definitely the season for berries! I love finding fresh blueberries at the farmer’s market, but I’m not always able to get to the farmer’s market on the day it’s open and often when I DO get there I find that I don’t use my berries before they go bad.
So, my go-to is frozen blueberries. In any recipes I find them just as good as the fresh berries and sometimes even better, especially when it is a quality brand like Wyman’s of Maine.
To lock in the freshness and taste, Wyman’s of Maine freezes their fruit within 24 hours of harvest to prevent the slow growth of ice crystals inside, which expand and destroy the cell structure, and leads to mushy fruit. Their berries will taste as fresh as the day it was picked (sans mush). The FDA has concluded that frozen produce is just as healthy as fresh and may even retain its nutritional value longer. Wild blueberries, Wyman’s of Maine’s original products, are bursting not only with flavor, but with nutrients too. Wild blueberries do the body good with a higher level of antioxidants than 40 other fruits and vegetables!
I use frozen blueberries in my smoothies almost every morning. My usual concoction involves all kinds of things like spinach, greek yogurt, etc, but when I want to go for the pure blueberry taste, I make this Blueberry Muffin Smoothie Recipe. It’s so good!

1/3 cup frozen blueberries
1/2 banana
1/4 cup oats
1/4 tsp ground cinnamon
1/2 tsp honey
3/4 cup milk
Directions:
Place all ingredients in a blender and blend until smooth. I like to use frozen banana so my smoothie is thicker and colder, but fresh is just fine too.
