They’re so crispy and crunchy with flavorful fillings. I’m happy to eat them instead of an entree when I visit.
It’s also a favorite Applebee’s dairy free option for my husband who can’t do dairy.
But now it’s even better because I can just make them at home whenever I want to. So let’s start off with learning a little more about wonton wrappers and how we can use them!
What Exactly Is A Wonton?
Also called a wanton, wuntun, won ton, or a wantan, this Chinese dumpling can be found in practically every Chinese restaurant around the world!
Small, but bursting with flavor, this tempting treat starts with a wonton wrapper and is commonly filled with minced pork, garlic, diced green onion, and spices.
A wonton is ordinarily boiled or steamed and served with soup. Despite the traditional way of cooking them, wontons are also fried and served as a side with Chinese dinners.
What Makes a Wonton so Well-Liked?
With so many families looking for cheap dinner ideas, wontons are simple to make and affordable to fill, making them a highly sought-after part not just of Chinese culture, but world-wide.
Usually, a Chinese wonton is made from a 6×6 piece of dough, filled with a small amount of filling. To seal the dumpling, a wet finger pressing around the edges is all you need!
Now that the wonton has become Americanized, sealing it is achieved by folding the small square wrapper in half. This is accomplished by pulling opposite corners together.
Is it Hard to Make a Wonton Taco?
Copycat Applebee’s Chicken Wonton Tacos aren’t complicated at all! The pre-packaged wonton wrappers can be found at your local grocery store.
If you enjoy cooking Chinese cuisine, I bet you have most, if not all the ingredients needed to make your wonton tacos! Because the wonton is baked, it is a healthier option than being fried.
