All you need is a can of biscuit dough and some oil to create easy and delicious doughnuts! They’re a family favorite.
This is a yummy and easy way to make doughnuts. I always get hungry for them when the weather starts to cool down in the fall. I must warn you though, these are not on my “healthy treat” list!
The only things you need are a can of refrigerated biscuits, oil for frying (vegetable, corn or canola are fine), and either plain sugar, sugar mixed with cinnamon or powdered sugar for topping.
How to make doughnuts from a can of biscuit dough:
Heat about 1″ of oil in a pan. To make sure it’s ready, put one drop of water in the pan. If it sizzles it’s ready.
Take a biscuit and poke a hole in the middle with your fingers – stretching out the biscuit a bit to make a bigger whole.
Carefully drop the biscuit onto the hot oil. Fry for about 30 seconds to a minute until bottom becomes brown and then flip and do the same with the other side.
As soon as you take out the doughnut, put on a plate holding your sugar. Flip to cover both sides with sugar.
These are best eaten hot, but can be saved for a day or two. (But seriously they are MUCH BETTER hot.)
I generally use the store brand biscuits because they are cheap and still tasty, but if you would like bigger doughnuts or see a sale on Pillsbury Grands.

Hmm…just 1″ of oil? I think even I could do that! I always balk at the idea of pouring 12 months worth of cooking oil into a pot just to fry something…
