Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • ½ cup water
  • 1 medium white onion diced into small bits
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon oil
  • 1 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 12 slider rolls
  • 6 slices American cheese
  • 24 dill pickle chips

Instructions

  • Heat oil in saucepan over medium heat. Add onion and sauté for 3 minutes. Add the water and Worcestershire sauce. Bring to a simmer and for 8 minutes. Remove from heat and set aside.
  • Flatten the beef between 2 sheets of parchment paper into a rectangle evenly ¼” thick.
  • Cut the beef into 12 patties and use a wooden spoon handle (or metal straw) perforate vent holes into each patty.
  • On a baking sheet, add the onions and juices, spreading them out across the entire sheet.
  • Place the patties on top of the onion and move baking sheet into the oven, covering with a larger baking sheet that’s turned upside down. Bake for 10 minutes.
  • While the burgers steam cook in the oven, cut the rolls in half to make buns.
  • After baking, remove burgers from oven and carefully remove top baking sheet.
  • Assemble the sliders with a bottom bun, then a burger patty, slices of cheese cut to fit the patties, and 2 pickles on top. Top with other half of bun.

Notes

  • Be sure to cut uniform patties so they cook evenly.
  • Don’t skip the vent holes! This step is key to steaming the beef just like White Castle.
  • For softer buns, place assembled sliders back into the oven for 2–3 minutes to warm through.
