A few weeks ago I told you about the new Motorla Xyboard that I received from Verizon. I have had a few opportunities to use it and have found that my #1 one place to use it is on the go. There are lots of things you can do with the Xyboard, just like with other tablets. You can surf the web, check e-mail, watch videos, and use tons of different apps. But, my favorite aspect is that you can turn it into a Mobile Hotspot and use the super-fast Verizon 4G service on other devices in the area.
What does that mean? It means that wherever I am, I can get super fast internet connection on my laptop just by wirelessly connecting it to my Xyboard. Over the past week I was doing a LOT of traveling and spent a few hours in airports. I was able to get a lot of work done, but I didn’t have to pay for airport wireless service and I didn’t have to take the risk of connecting to a “free” wireless service. (Just a note: NEVER connect to a free wireless connection if you don’t know it’s an official service offered by the facility, especially in a place like the airport. It can be a set up to grab the info from your computer or even to put a tracer in your computer so they can continue to connect even after you leave.)
To use my Xyboard as a Mobile Hotspot, all I have to do is go in to the settings and turn it on. Then I just fold it up in its case and go to my laptop and under my connection settings select the Xyboard. Then, since the Xyboard is all nice and folded up in its case, it makes a perfect mousepad for my laptop mouse!
Disclosure: I am participating in the Verizon Wireless Midwest Savvy Savers program and have been provided with a wireless device and six months of service in exchange for my honest opinions about the product.
