It’s no secret that I love to travel. I love seeing new places and experiencing new things.
Traveling is one of the best ways to learn new things, create wonderful memories and plain-and-simple be happy! Planning ahead to keep yourself and your belongings safe and secure while you are on your adventures can make the experience a whole lot more enjoyable.
Few things short of illness or injury can put a bigger damper on a trip than having your valuables stolen. Luckily, with just a few simple plan-ahead steps and these tips to keep your belongings safe while traveling, you can greatly reduce your chances of a loss.
Travel Tips: Keep Your Belongings Safe
Be Aware:
The number one safeguard to avoid theft is to be alert! Never leave your belongings unattended and don’t become distracted. A favorite tactic for thieves is to work in pairs so that one can distract you while another swoops in to snatch your belongings. Don’t let that happen to you!
Lock Your Luggage:
It’s easy for items to go missing from an unlocked suitcase whether it is at the airport, being transferred to your hotel, or being stored in a tour bus. That’s where a TSA-accepted luggage lock comes in.
TSA baggage screeners have access to a secured set of codes and tools to let them access your bag – but no one else can! This MasterLock version is easy to use with a customizable code you choose yourself.
Keep Back-ups:
Just in case you do have your Passport and/or cash stolen, keep a backup handy. A photocopy of your Passport will help you get a replacement much more quickly – just make sure you keep it in a different bag than your passport!
When traveling with a companion, split of your items between you. If one person loses his/her cash, credit card, etc – then the other will still have theirs. Only one of you holding everything of value isn’t a good plan!
ON you is Best:
Keeping your items as close to you as possible is the best bet. A money belt keeps your valuables concealed and about as close to your body as you can get. If you’re going to be using a purse, choose a cross body style that closes completely and keep your hand on it (over the zipper) when in crowds.
Bring Your Own Safe:
You can lock up valuables such as cell phones, small electronics, jewelry, credit cards, keys, etc with a sturdy portable save like the Master Lock SafeSpace Portable Personal Safe.
This Travel Safe with Master Lock lets you tuck all your valuables inside and then secure it by wrapping the sturdy cable wrapped around a fixed object such as a table leg. (I like that it even has a small access port for earbuds or a charging cable.)
Insurance:
Just in case you follow all of these tips and still lose an item, insurance can come in handy. Check your homeowner’s policy to see if it has coverage for items stolen while traveling. You can also consider purchasing a travel insurance plan that includes coverage for lost or damaged items.
How about you? Do you have any safety tips to keep belongings safe while traveling?

We have those products and I admit they are AH-mazing for sure! I brought the safe along with me to our trip to Killington Mt Resort when we stayed there, totally worth the investment into these two products!
