Kids are always a great source of funny stories and many of those stories involve food and mealtime. A strong stubborn streak runs in our family. I believe that I missed it and am the mild-mannered one (no comments with contradictions from family members!), but my 5-year-old nephew has got a terribly strong dose of stubbornness. Whenever my sister has complained about difficulties at mealtimes because of his stubbornness and refusal to eat certain things, I have the pleasure of reminding her of the stubborn things she did as a child. I am five years older than her, so I remember them well!
One of the most memorable stories was when she was about 4 years old and my Mom served liver for dinner. Now, I HATED liver, but I knew that I had to eat at least one bite of it to satisfy my Mom and be allowed to leave the dinner table. My sister, on the other hand, refused to try it. After a long while, she finally took a bite and Mom said she could leave the table. We thought it a bit strange that for an hour after dinner sis was really quiet – not saying a single word. Mom went to investigate and much to her surprise, the bite of liver was still in her mouth!!! She was so stubborn that instead of swallowing and being done with it, she carried that icky piece of liver around in her mouth for an hour. Disgusting!
