We all want to be healthy, right? It's a great goal to have, but there is always a fine line balancing it with other life goals like time management, finances, etc. Each one is important. Over the last few months I have been making a conscious effort to improve my health. My husband, Mario, has been on a quest to lose weight, so it has made it a lot easier since we both have the “healthy mindset” going on. But, as you know, it can still be a struggle to pick up healthy habits and make them stick.
One thing that has been a great benefit to us is that we recently joined the YMCA. I love the Y! There is such a big variety of activities to choose from, which really helps rule out the boredom factor. For me to say I was bored with exercise would have to be a lie because if I wasn't taking a Zumba class, I could run on the treadmill and watch TV. If I got tired of the elliptical and free weights I could try the rock climbing wall. Or I could play volleyball, or try Latin Hip Hop, or jump in the pool, etc. etc. etc.
The Y also makes great financial sense for us. We get access to so many physical activities at a very reasonable monthly fee. Plus, our insurance company even covers a portion of the membership as long as we visit regularly.
The only downside is that time exercising often runs into meal times, which means we are usually starving when we leave the Y and it's really tempting to head to the Mexican place across the street or the burger joint down the road to grab something to eat that is NOT healthy! Not to mention, we would go broke eating out every night.
So, the best option is to have food at home that is healthy, can be prepared in just a few minutes, and is reasonably priced.
So, I was happy to have the opportunity to try out some new products from Healthy Choice. After a recent visit to the Y, I headed down the street to Walmart to pick them up. You can see the Google+ story of my whole shopping trip here.
To buy my Healthy Choice products I used coupons (of course!) and you can print these same coupons below. Don't you love high value coupons of $1 off 1 item?!?
When I got home I was super hungry and ready to eat. I threw the Healthy Choice Top Chef Crustless Pot Pie in the microwave and it was ready in less than 5 minutes. The design of the meal is pretty cool with a special steamer bowl that lets the veggies (carrots, corn, peas), dumplings and chicken steam. That way they stay really fresh and don't get mushy.
The meal was really good and surprisingly filling for only 300 calories and 6 grams of fat! (Oh, and that cool bowl is a #5 recyclable – so it can go in your recycling if your recycler does #5!)
Then it was time for dessert!!
To be perfectly honest, when I first opened the Healthy Choice Dark Fudge Swirl Greek Frozen Yogurt I wasn't very excited. It didn't look very flavorful to me and I figured I would be digging around for another dessert when I was finished with it. BOY WAS I WRONG! It has that delicious “tang” of yogurt and was so creamy and smooth. And at only 100 calories it is an easy way to treat myself and not feel guilty at all!
I'm happy to have found some solutions to my goals of staying healthy and watching my budget all while saving time too!
