I must admit that I am something of a water fanatic. I usually have a glass next to me at all times. It sits next to my keyboard or on the kitchen counter during the day. If I take a car trip of more than 15 minutes I bring water along. At night I keep a glass inside my bedside table drawer. (Yes, I keep it INSIDE, the cats make sure to tip it over onto my books if I don't!) So, maybe I am a bit overboard with the water, but I like water and hey, it's good for you too!
As far as the source of my water, it has been a little bit of an issue lately. First off, I hate the idea of bottled water. It is just so wasteful to be throwing away all those plastic bottles and even if you recycle them, it takes a ton of energy to recycle them and make them into new products. And, of course, bottles are expensive! I had been using the water filter on my fridge, but it never gave really great tasting water and finally, about a month ago, the water function stopped working completely. The refillable jugs at the grocery store provide good water and are environmentally friendly, but are a pain to deal with.
PUR Flavor Options Filter – Review
So, I got a better option – a PUR water filter. PUR was nice enough to send me a PUR Flavor Options Pitcher to test out. But, since I was so anxious for good water, I couldn't wait for it to arrive and bought a PUR Flavor Options Faucet Mount filter. The filter fits right on to your kitchen faucet. To dispense filtered water, you just turn the nob to the PUR selection. The neat feature about the Flavor Options filter is that if you want to add some taste to your water, you simply push a button. The more you push it, the more flavor you get. The same option is available on the PUR Flavor Options Pitcher. You push a button to add flavor to your glass and the rest of the pitcher remains unflavored. The flavor cartridges are available in five different flavors: raspberry, lemon, grape, peach and strawberry. You can interchange the flavor cartridges at any time. Oh, and the flavoring is sugar-free and calorie-free!
I love my new PUR filter. The water tastes fantastic and it's nice to be able to change it up with flavor from time to time. Although, it does take some getting used to having the filter on the kitchen faucet, at least it looks sleek and blends in with the faucet. My husband is a big fan of the filter too especially because he likes his water at a warmer temperature. He can just take cool water right out of the filter while I can fill up a bottle to keep in the fridge so that it is super cold.
Here are a few more facts for you from PUR:
- Environment & Money:
Switching from bottled water to filtered and a reusable bottle can eliminate up to 3,200 plastic bottles and save one person up to $600 annually - Health: The EPA estimates that approximately 20% of Americans’ lead exposure is attributable to tap water. PUR filters are certified to reduce many contaminants, including 98% of lead, 99.9% of microbial cysts and 99% of pharmaceuticals
- Philanthropy: With each purchase of a PUR filter, a donation is made to Children’s Safe Drinking Water which has, to date, provided over 1.5 billion liters of clean water to needy children and their families around the world.
