Do your kids like to monkey around? If so, they might enjoy Nickelodeon’s newest game – Monkey Quest. Kids ages 8-12 can explore virtual worlds and create their own adventures and play the Monkey Quest game online. Kids love it so much that in the short time since launching in April 2011, it has become one of the most visited kids’ virtual world sites, with more than 3 million registered users!
A nice thing about Monkey Quest is that it is FREE to play! With the free gaming experience, kids can explore new trails, play on various levels, etc. And they can always find people to play with and something new and fun to do no matter what game level they are at. But, for those who want a deeper gaming experience, you have the ability to pay to gain access to quests, abilities and other exclusive elements. With the hybrid payment model, parents can choose a subscription (1 month, 3 months or a year) plan or a “pay as you go” option through NickCash, Nickelodeon’s virtual currency.
Back to the game – In the world of Monkey Quest, kids map out their own adventures in the land of Ook. Monkeys rule the land and players join one of five tribes and band together against the dark force of the Shadow Demon Ka that threatens them all. The game promotes cooperative play and learning by encouraging kids to work together to defeat monsters, solve puzzles or explore a variety of locations throughout the evolving virtual world. The game is truly funny with lots of “kid style” humor – sure to keep them giggling!
Monkey Quest Review:
This game is seriously cute! To start out you get to design your own monkey and name it – and soon you start out on your first quest. Bananas are the currency of the game and its fun to race around and see them start to add up. The first adventure we encountered was to rescue a chameleon with his tail caught in a rock. The little monkey pulled him right out. As you go along there are a lot of arrows and word clues to let you know what to do next, but I’m sure the average 8to12-year-old would need those hings less than I do. I thought Monkey Quest was a bit reminiscent of World of Warcraft or Everquest in that you can create characters in various “classes”, you build your weapons and abilities, need to keep a eye on your stats, skills, etc….but definitely waaayyyyy more kid-friendly!
