This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of Purina. All opinions are 100% mine.
Two things that are easy to love are pets and kids. What's even better is that they usually love each other too! During the month of April, you can help pets AND kids when you shop for your own furry friend at Dollar General. Purina and Dollar General have partnered to help promote awareness of the importance of literacy.
Did you know that studies have shown that when children read to pets, their reading skills & confidence improve? This is a wonderful way for kids to increase their reading abilities and for pets to have some extra special human time. To help promote literacy awareness, Purina is offering four Dollar General digital coupons and for each one redeemed from 4/5/2015 through 4/30/2015, Purina will donate $1 to the Dollar General Literacy foundation up to $20,000.
The coupons included are:
- Save $1.00 on one (1) 12lb bag of Purina® Friskies® Dry Cat Food
- Buy ANY five (5) 5.5oz cans of Purina® Friskies® Wet Cat Food and get one (1) can FREE (up to 50¢)
- Save $1.00 on one (1) 14lb or larger bag of Purina® Alpo® Dry Dog Food
- Save $1.00 on ANY one (1) package of Purina® Tidy Cats® Scoopable Litter
The Dollar General Literacy Foundation awards grants to nonprofit organizations and schools that help individuals learn to read, prepare for the high school equivalency test, or learn the English language. The contributions from the promotion will be used towards these grants.
If you have a Dollar General in your neighborhood you know how convenient it is to stop in and pick up whatever it is you need. It's definitely the case for pet supplies too. I love that I can get in and out of the store within 5 minutes!

Oh my goodness to that last picture. 🙂 Perfect!
We don’t have pets. My son reads to his stuffed animals though, so I have little doubt he would read to his pets if we had any. 🙂

That’s great they are supporting literacy. Our library has a program where kids can come in and read to dogs. It’s a great way to get kids more excited about reading!

Our dog has to have a form of canine ADHD. There is no way she could sit through my daughter’s favorite book, Green Eggs and Ham…lol!

Awww…the two dogs on the boy’s chest sleeping is just too cute! It brought a big smile to my face! That and the fact that he was reading out of an actual book and not a tablet!

Still working on getting my oldest to read to her little sisters. But reading is always important and regardless of how you get people reading, its always good.
