Even though it's the heart of super-cold winter, we Minnesotans still like our ice cream! Until recently, I hadn't heard of Graeter's Ice Cream, a Cincinnati tradition now available online and in grocery stores. But (lucky me), I got to try out their first new Graeter’s flavor in 3 years – Black Cherry Chocolate Chip.
This all-natural black cherry ice cream is made with heavy cream, pure cane sugar and is chock-full of fresh black cherries and Graeter’s signature dark chocolate chunks. Like all Graeter’s flavors, it is churned in a French Pot, two gallons at a time, and hand-packed by the pint.
I have to say that I was very impressed. The ice cream itself is smooth and creamy and those nice big black cherry chunks pack a wallop of flavor. But my very favorite part is those chocolate chunks. WOW – they are “melt-in-your-mouth” delicious and I could eat a whole bowl of those chunks all by themselves. I had to find out why they tasted so awesome and learned that they create the chips by pouring their own specially prepared liquid chocolate into the French Pot just as the ice cream is finishing.
