Check Out Lisa Loeb’s NEW CD! NO FAIRY TALE – Review and Reader Giveaway

When I was offered the opportunity to review Lisa Loeb’s new album, NO FAIRY TALE I thought “Cool. All the moms can relive their youth in the 90s”. But as soon as I popped it in my car CD player my first reaction was, “This sounds like Taylor Swift”. I guess what I should have actually been saying is that Taylor sounds like Lisa….because Lisa was definitely first!

For NO FAIRY TALE, Loeb teamed up with co-producer Chad Gilbert (of New Found Glory) to record a “poppy-punky-rock album” which features Loeb’s trademark sound, shaped by Gilbert’s OC punk perspective. She also collaborates with indie stars Tegan and Sara (with whom she recorded two songs—her first songwriting collaboration). Other artists featured on the album include Hello Goodbye, Morgan Taylor, Maia Sharp and Marvin Etzioni.

I have to say that I enjoyed the album of what I would describe as guitar pop tunes.  I think that Lisa is in for a new generation of fans because her youthful lyrics and fun sound will make this an album that both moms AND their daughters will want to listen to.

There are love songs and love-gone-wrong songs, but one of the most fun is “The ’90s”.  It  recounts the decade and Lisa cops to the fact that while they were good, she doesn’t want to go back there – do any of us?  This lyrics to this song, as do many of the others, feature Loeb’s quirky and clever wordplay that will make you want to listen up and catch every word.

A little more about Lisa Loeb:

Grammy®-nominated singer/songwriter Lisa Loeb was launched into the limelight in 1994 with her platinum-selling Number 1 hit song “Stay (I Missed You)” from the film Reality Bites.  Since then, she has enjoyed a successful career encompassing music, film, television, voice-over work and children’s recordings.  In addition to raising two children, Loeb is currently working on a new eyewear line, Lisa Loeb Eyewear (in partnership with Classique Eyewear); her second children’s book “Lisa Loeb’s Songs for Moving and Shaking” out April 2, 2013; and NO FAIRY TALE.
